Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Boiler Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a remote contract position to support a value creation and due diligence (VDS) initiative for our client. The SME will provide deep industry knowledge and practical expertise in the industrial and commercial steam boiler manufacturing sector. This role has the potential to transition into an ongoing engagement beyond the diligence phase, depending on fit and demonstrated expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert insights into the industrial boiler manufacturing industry, including market dynamics, competitive landscape, and key differentiators (e.g., firetube vs. watertube boilers, horsepower outputs, and end-market applications).

  • Support due diligence efforts by analyzing operational processes, sales strategies, and go-to-market approaches, including the role of third-party sales representative networks.

  • Offer technical and operational guidance on the design, manufacturing, and application of large-scale steam boilers for industrial and commercial use.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to evaluate business performance, identify growth opportunities, and provide recommendations for operational and sales optimization.

  • Stay informed on industry trends, innovations, and regulatory requirements affecting the industrial boiler sector.

Qualifications

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 5+ years of practical experience in the industrial boiler manufacturing industry, with a focus on large-scale steam boilers (firetube and/or watertube).

    • Proven expertise in either sales (e.g., working with third-party sales representatives, market segmentation, or customer acquisition) or operations (e.g., manufacturing processes, supply chain, or product development).

  • Deep understanding of the industrial boiler market, including key players, end-market applications (healthcare, manufacturing, food & beverage, etc.), and technical specifications.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex industry insights into actionable recommendations.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote setting, with excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Prior consulting or advisory experience is a plus but not required.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with the competitive landscape of the industrial boiler industry, including players like Cleaver-Brooks.

  • Experience working with or managing third-party sales representative networks.

  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations, safety standards, and technological advancements in steam boiler manufacturing.

Contract Details

  • Location: Fully remote

  • Duration: Initial contract for the due diligence phase, with potential for an ongoing role based on performance and fit.

  • Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience.
